In Production: #QUADthemovie aerial documentary

So I'm wrapping up principal videography on QUAD THE MOVIE. What an amazing experience I had shooting the beautiful California landscapes.

< Hauling QUAD gear up the poison oak trail.  Don't touch anything.

< The Last Ride of Panny 2.3.  We lost a quad on the most innocent of days, at the worst of times. Panny 2.3 valiantly lost his battle with gravity, and made splashdown at mach 4 in the cold water of Vasona lake.  We cried.  We dried.  In the end, Panny 2.3 is only "mostly dead," which is slightly alive.  *More on how to deal with quadcopter water damage in future blog post.

< Workbench porn: We brought up "the kid" from the D-League.  He was green, but we put in the necessary upgrades to fly him in the starting rotation.

Welcome to the fleet Panny 2.4.

< Los Gatos Fresco.

< If you Google the word "NERD," this picture comes up.

< Getting the safety haps from the cool cats at the Alma Bridge Fire Station in Los Gatos.

Support your local fire station, and always follow the local and state flying laws for safety.  Never fly around people, children or animals (keep at least 150' distance).

THE BRAVEST, THE BOLDEST to play the 2014 Los Angeles Film Festival

Congrats are in order for the cast & crew of director Moon Molson's THE BRAVEST, THE BOLDEST.  The 17-minute short film has been selected to screen at the 20th annual Los Angeles Film Festival June 11-19th, 2014.

Starring Sameerah Luqmaan-Harris, the drama involves two Army notification officers pursuing the mother of a fallen soldier.  The film made its world premiere at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in January, and has played, and won numerous awards, on the festival circuit since its launch.

I'm the co-executive producer of this film, and I'm very stoked that director Moon Molson and the gang get to blast out Los Angeles.  See you in June!

#QUADthemovie photo

< Birthed the new Panny 2.4 today (from the 6161 Fleet), and took this cool shot in my front yard.  I custom ordered the green and black stickers from Amazon.  Since this quad was meant for practice flights, I added an affordable GoPro mount for test footage.  The mount is perfunctory, at best, due to heavy vibration issues.  To combat this, I always recommend upgrading to the Zenmuse H3-3D gimbal for stabilized footage. But Panny 2.4 is just a practice unit, and only needs a basic camera mount for test footage.

< Our #QUADthemovie Panny case with locations rocked, but not rolled.

< Unfortunately, Panny 2.2 went all self-aware, and took a big spill.  Like Oscar Goldman with Jamie Sommers, I'm slowly putting her back together.  Better.  Stronger.  Faster.  She will fly again.
